Yesterday, a female lawyer pled guilty to criminal charges related to a brutal home invasion of the law firm partner who terminated her employment.
According to The Daily Mail, Alecia Schmuhl, 32, sobbed as she pled guilty in Fairfax County court. Her plea agreement means that she could face 10 to 45 years in prison, a term significantly less than what was given to her accomplice earlier this summer.
In June, Alecia’s husband Andrew was handed a 98-year sentence for his part in their crime. While Alecia was the perceived mastermind, her husband Andrew committed the actual violence of the plan.
Prosecutors said that Alecia plotted to harm Leo Fisher after he fired her from his Arlington law firm, Bean Kinney & Korman. After her firing, she considered filing a lawsuit, but she and her husband went a darker route when Andrew held Fisher and his wife hostage in their home in McLean, Virginia.

On November 9, 2014, Andrew barged into Fisher’s home and bound and gagged Fisher and his wife Susan Duncan. He reportedly proceeded to torture the couple for three hours before eventually slitting Fisher’s throat and stabbing Duncan. After being stabbed, Duncan pretended to be dead before triggering the home alarm, which notified the police. The police found the couple and was able to bring them to the hospital in time.
During the attack, Alecia was allegedly outside, giving Andrew direction with a disposable cell phone. The two had plotted the attack, purchasing the phone and other items for their “abduction kit.”
Police found Andrew and Alecia shortly after the attack, and authorities said that Andrew was wearing only an adult diaper. During Andrew’s trial, his lawyer argued that he was unaware of what he was doing. Andrew had been a lawyer also, but his practice was stalled because of his addiction to pain medication, a result from an injury sustained while in the military.
