Summary: With reports of creepy clowns pouring into the news and social media outlets, the youngest person to use the hoax to elicit panic has been arrested.
A “killer clown hoax” went viral from Instagram account “Killerclownfromnj.” Police were able to locate and arrest the person behind the “hoax” – a 12-year-old girl from New Jersey. The girl is, at this time, the youngest person to be arrested for making clown-related threats.

The girl used Instagram to make an “unspecified threat” to a Toms River public school. The Instagrammer posted about making a visit to the middle school with a series of emoji’s implying violence.
With the recent explosion of creepy clown attacks and sightings, the threat was taken seriously. Cybercrime investigators tracked the Instagram post back to the girl who was then arrested for third-degree count of causing false public alarm. Once things were investigated, the police were able to conclude that the “ill-conceived hoax” was no “credible threat to students.” The girl will also face disciplinary actions through the school.

Other clown threats have been experienced across the country with Northwestern High School in Prince Georges County, MD going on lockdown due to the threat. In Montgomery County, MD, a student brought a knife to school to protect himself from a clown attack. Other clown threats include kidnapping a student, planting a bomb, and even exploding a school.
With the month of October just beginning, there are bound to be more Halloween related pranks to spring pop.
