Summary: Movie star Jim Carrey has been slapped with a second wrongful death lawsuit.
If only Jim Carrey actually had a machine to erase painful memories from his brain … The Eternal Sunshine actor has already been sued for the wrongful death of his ex-girlfriend by her estranged husband, but now the late woman’s mother is suing Carrey as well.

According to PEOPLE, Bridget Sweetman, the mother of Cathriona White, filed a lawsuit against Carrey, 54. Sweetman said Carrey was responsible for her daughter’s death because he gave the depression-prone White drugs and three STDs.
“As a family, we want the world to know the truth about who Jim Carrey really is,” Sweetman said.
The allegations are similar to what White’s estranged husband, Mark Burton, stated in his lawsuit that was filed a month ago. Burton and Sweetman are represented by the same attorney, Michael Avenatti.

Sweetman said in the court documents that Carrey gave White three STDS, including herpes and chlamydia. She said that he didn’t warn her before the infection, and that when White confronted him, he dumped her. According to Sweetman, Carrey took his dumb and dumber behavior further and called her a “whore” publicly and used his high-powered attorneys to shame and silence her.
Sweetman said that Carrey also gave White prescription drugs that he had obtained using a fake name. On September 24, 2015, White had overdosed on pills, and she was found surrounded by four bottles that were issued to Carrey’s pseudonym.
When Burton had accused Carrey of these actions, Carrey said that the drugs were stolen from him and that the lawsuit was a “heartless attempt to exploit me or the woman I loved.” He also denied giving White diseases.
Carrey’s lawyer, Martin Singer, told PEOPLE that it was understandable that Sweetman was upset but that she was directing her blame in the wrong direction.
“It is understandable that a mother who has lost a daughter will look for someone to blame. But in directing her grief and rage at Jim Carrey and joining this ridiculous lawyer’s attempt to capitalize on Cathriona’s suicide, Mrs. Sweetman is heading down the same dark path as Cathriona’s green-card ‘husband,’ Mark Burton,” Singer said.
Avenatti released a statement that implied Carrey was not much different from his Liar Liar character.
“The lies from Jim Carrey and his handlers need to stop,” Avenatti said. “Instead of attacking a grieving family in an effort to avoid responsibility, why don’t they just try telling the truth about how Carrey gave Cat the STDs and then gave her the illegal drugs? Unlike Hollywood handlers, lab results do not lie.”
