Summary: The deposition in the Taylor Swift groping case has been released.
In 2013, Taylor Swift appeared at a Denver meet-and-greet; and she said that the host, a local radio DJ named David Mueller, groped her. She reported the sexual assault, and he was promptly fired. He responded by suing her for slander, but she refused to shake it off. Instead, she fired back by suing him for assault.
In July, the Blank Space singer gave a videotaped deposition in her case, and the transcript has recently been released. In the two hour deposition, she described in detail how Mueller had grabbed her and how intentional his action was.
“Right as the moment came for us to pose for the photo, he took his hand and put it up my dress and grabbed onto my ass cheek and no matter how much I scooted over it was still there,” Swift said. “It was completely intentional, I’ve never been so sure of anything in my life.”
While the transcript has been released, the photograph allegedly showing Mueller grabbing Swift has been sealed. According to E! News, Swift’s legal team said that the photo could be used by the media for salacious purposes and it could possibly affect a jury’s decision.
In the deposition, Swift, who is represented by Venable LLP’s Doug Baldridge, said that she was incredibly upset by the incident.
“I remember being frantic, distressed, feeling violated in a way I had never experienced before,” Swift said. “A meet-and-greet is supposed to be a situation where you’re thanking people for coming, you’re supposed to be welcoming people into your home, which is the arena for that day, and for someone to violate that hospitality in that way, I was completely stunned.”
Throughout this saga, Mueller has maintained his innocence. In his slander lawsuit, he said that he had touched her by accident and that it was actually his former boss who groped her.
Swift filed this deposition in hopes to win the case before trial. She has pledged to donate any awards to sexual assault charities.
