Summary: A Mississippi lawyer blames Popeyes for him choking on chicken.
A grown man is suing Popeyes Louisiana Chicken for choking on too big of a piece of meat. He said that he was forced to eat his fried chicken with his hands because the fast food restaurant didn’t provide a knife, and now he is suing for damages.

The story gets crazier when you learn that the man, Paul Newton Jr., is an attorney in Mississippi. Newton said that in November 2015, he got some chicken from a Gulfport Popeyes and was given only a spork as a utensil. He said that he was thus forced to tear into the chicken directly with his teeth, which caused him to choke. In his lawsuit, he claimed he underwent emergency surgery to remove the chicken from his throat.
In addition to wanting money for medical expenses and pain and suffering, Newton wants Popeyes to put knives in all of its fast food orders.
WLOX spoke to two former Popeyes’ employees who found Newton’s lawsuit to be ridiculous.

“If you choke on your chicken and you have to get the chicken removed from your throat, it’s not because Popeyes didn’t apply a knife to the box,” Tory Stokes said. “Maybe you should slow down eating. Nobody eats chicken with utensils.”
Jacqueline Stokes agreed.
“Behaviorally, we know about how much to put in our mouths to keep us from choking to death, and/or we would choke on every bite that we ate,” Jacqueline Stokes said.
