Summary: Justin Bieber wants his egging deposition hidden from the public.
Bad boy entertainer Justin Bieber doesn’t want the public to know how bad he really is. The young singer has requested that his recent court deposition be sealed, TMZ reported, and he’s citing President Elect Donald J. Trump as his legal inspiration.
In 2014, Bieber’s neighbor in Calabasas, California sued him for allegedly egging his home. Jeffrey Schwartz said that Bieber terrorized him, not only by vandalizing his property but also by spitting on him. Bieber, 22, has already plead no contest to the egging charge, and he was forced to pay almost $80,000 in restitution.
At the time, Bieber released a statement that he was happy this matter was behind him, but apparently that wasn’t the case. Schwartz sued Bieber for the spitting in civil court, citing the “Baby” crooner inflicted emotional distress on him. Bieber fought back on this charge, and the litigation is pending.
As part of the civil lawsuit, Schwarz wanted to depose Bieber and Michael Arana, Bieber’s former bodyguard who is now living in Florida. Schwarz was so adamant for that testimony that he was willing to fly his lawyers there to grill him. To counter, Bieber demanded Schwarz and his wife undergo a mental evaluation to prove that they are still emotionally scarred from Spitgate and the great egging of 2014.
Bieber’s lawyers want to seal his deposition because they worry its release will become a media spectacle. They said that Schwartz’s emotional distress claim is baloney and that Schwartz was already paid off before.
Bieber’s lawyers then cited Trump as a shining example of a man who was allowed to have his court testimony hidden from the public. According to TMZ, they said that Trump was protected in the Trump University lawsuit and that sometimes privacy in lawsuits is a good thing.
