Summary: Attorney Adam Baker of Knightdale is facing charges after taking money from a couple but never performing any services.
A Southern lawyer took a retainer but allegedly didn’t do any of the work. The lazy man, Adam Baker, was eventually saved when his parents paid back the disgruntled clients; but he still faces charges of obtaining property under false pretenses, WRAL reports.
Charles and Robin Rampani hired Baker a year and a half ago when they noticed the foundation of their home was faulty. They wanted him to resolve their problems with the contractor so that their floors would be fixed. The Knightdale, North Carolina couple gave the attorney a retainer fee of $5,000, but after paying, he allegedly served them with excuses instead of paperwork.
“”Oh my dad was sick, oh my grandpa was sick, my wife’s pregnant,” and we were trusting,” Robin Rampani said to WRAL.
This week, the 34-year-old Baker was arrested, and police have asked the public to come forward if they have ever been swindled by him. The Rampanis have luckily been reimbursed by Baker’s parents, who rushed to the rescue of their alleged good-for-nothing adult son, but they told WRAL that they are much less trusting now than they were before.
