Summary: Get the most out of your next run by using one or more of these apps.

One of the perks of running is that it can be a much less expensive sport than many others out there. All you really need is a pair of running shoes and you can head out the door and be on your way. To help you keep this hobby low cost, but still get the most out of it, here are five great running apps for iOS to try out at no cost.

Map My Run – If you’re looking for a simple app that will use your phone’s GPS to track and save your runs, this is it! Map My Run gives you feedback and stats to help you improve your performance, helps you find new routes or share your favorites with others, and has a 40 million member community of runners to connect with.

Nike+ Run Club – Another great app to track your runs and store your data, Nike+ Run Club also pairs up with other technology, like an Apple Watch. In addition, Nike has created training plans within the app that you can follow based on your running level and allows you to share your runs with friends and family to keep up the motivation.

Charity Miles – What better motivation for getting in a walk or run than doing it for charity? Once you’ve opened the app, choose a charity and get moving. Whether you’re running indoors on the treadmill or outside, Charity Miles tracks your distance. The further you go the more money you earn for the charity of your choice.

5K Runner – We all have to start somewhere, right? If you’re a new runner, this just might be the app for you. 5K Runner features an 8 week running plan that has you doing walking/running intervals to get you started gradually and takes all the guess work out of learning to incorporate running into your daily routine.

RunGo – Do you love to run when you travel to new places? Finding a good route can be tough if you’re unfamiliar with the area, so RunGo shares with you popular routes wherever you are. It even announces each turn and lets you know when you’re off route, so you don’t have to spend half your run stopping to look at your phone.

I'm originally from Kansas City, MO and I did my undergrad at the College of Charleston in South Carolina. I started this blog in August of 2011 because I needed a creative outlet and I wanted to write about my life in a way that other women could relate to and realize that they aren’t alone in many aspects of their lives.
