Summary: Known as “Glass Beach,” a once dangerous sea shore has been molded into a beautiful beach filled with rounded glass pebbles by the Pacific Ocean.
Once a beach covered in alcohol bottles now this Russian beach is a place of colorful pebbles thanks to the work of waves in the Pacific Ocean. Ussuri Bay was a dumping spot for glass bottles and other waste from a porcelain factory. The waves have transformed the bottles into rounded and polished pebbles over the years, giving it the name of “Glass Beach.”
Now tourists flock to the beach to see the once jagged shards of vodka, beer, and wine bottles decorating the beach with now rounded pieces of sea glass. For a small fee, tourists are able to visit the beach along Russia’s east coast, which has even received zoning by the government as a protected area. The beach is located near the naval port where it is warm enough to swim in the summer and is coated by snow in the winter. Many believe the beach is the most beautiful in the winter where the snow truly brings out the colors of the glass.
