Summary: A 76-year-old newlywed was angry at his wife for not consummating their marriage after six months so he threatened his wife and shot her in the butt.
A Florida newlywed grew tired of waiting for his marriage of six months to be consummated. Donald Royce, 76, was angry that his needs had not been met after six months so he shot his new wife in the butt. Royce was taken in by the police for felony domestic violence. He is being held in the Lee County jail on $100,000 bail.
On Saturday night, Royce fired two shots at his 62-year-old wife in the bedroom of their Lehigh Acres residence. She was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital where she was treated and released.
Royce explained, “They have been married since August and together they have not consummated their marriage.” The police report states, “Donald became violently angry tonight due to his requesting sex with his wife and her refusing.”
Police determined during questioning that Royce and his wife were arguing about the sleeping arrangements. He thought firing the gun into the bed would scare her, and he thought right. His wife is definitely scared of him. Royce missed the mattress and hit his wife in the hip and buttocks. “Donald stated he only wanted to shoot the mattress but was upset when he realized he had shot his wife,” noted an investigator. Royce told the police when they arrived, “I shot her and the gun is in my room.”
A judge ordered Royce to have no contact with his spouse. The couple was married in the Fort Myers clerk’s office in August. They had been together for six years.
