Summary: Two armed attackers attempt to rob two LDS missionaries but end up getting beat up before running away empty-handed.
Don’t mess with the missionaries. Two LDS missionaries serving in the Manaus Brazil Mission were seen on surveillance footage fighting off two armed attackers. The two attackers were attempting to rob the missionaries at gunpoint.
From the footage it is apparent that the attackers advanced towards the missionaries on a motorcycle, stopping right next to them and two other locals. The man on the back of the motorcycle steps off and pulls a gun from his belt region. The one missionary does not let this stop him.
The missionary wrestles the gun from the man and then turns it on the attacker. When the other attacker still on the motorcycle decides to join in on the fight, the missionary tosses the gun over a fence. The two exchange a few punches while moving around the street. Witnesses to the event come to help with both attackers eventually fleeing.
International security expert David Acosta explains this typical robbery tactic, “They come up on a motorcycle, they get off. The one guy is they get away guy and the other guy is the armed robber and they will shoot you…they will shoot you. If you don’t feel like your life is for sure in danger, like you’re going to be shot, then just hand over whatever it is you have. Don’t resist because it is so dangerous.”
The identity of the missionaries is not known although he does appear to be white. The person that posted the video to Facebook claims the missionary is American. There are over 74,000 full-time LDS missionaries missions around the world.
