Summary: Aspiring actress Karrueche Tran plans on testifying against Chris Brown, who allegedly beat her during their relationship.
When Karrueche Tran started dating Chris Brown after his relationship with Rihanna, gossipers wondered–would the domestic abuser change for his new girl?
Apparently, the answer was no, according to a new report from TMZ. Like how a leopard can’t change his spots, Chris Brown just can’t stop being a violent jackass. The publication said that the model and aspiring actress plans to testify against the R&B singer because he allegedly physically assaulted her during their tumultuous on-and-off relationship.
Before Tran, Brown pleaded guilty to felony assault for beating up Rihanna in 2009. The then-couple were in the car on the night of the Grammy’s when hot-headed Brown repeatedly hit her in the face, causing it to swell and bruise. The musical power couple subsequently broke up, and Brown began dating Tran, a model who’s star was barely lit before she dated the multi-platinum singer.
TMZ reports that on Friday, Tran served Brown with a restraining order. For months, she had tried to serve him, but he had evaded receiving the papers. On Friday, a process server was finally able to catch him outside of his 28th birthday party in Houston.
Tran and Brown had dated since 2012, and Tran said in a sworn testimony that he had threatened to kill her.
“He told a few people that he was going to kill me,” Tran said in a court statement. “He said if no one else can have me, then he’s gonna ‘take me out.'”
Since the start of their relationship, sources said that Brown had abused Tran, and instances include him flinging her down a flight of stairs and punching her in the stomach. Tran ended the relationship for good in 2015 when it was discovered that Brown had fathered a baby with another woman.
In February, Tran was granted a temporary restraining against Brown, and at the time, her reps told E! News, “Ms. Tran is looking to expeditiously close this matter and quite frankly be able to move on with her life and put this matter behind her as quickly as possible.”
According to CapitalXtra, Brown has responded to TMZ’s report on Instagram. The troubled singer posted a screenshot of a headline claiming he was served the restraining order, and in the caption, he wrote, “Super lie. Try again.”
Despite Brown’s claim, Tran’s lawyer Patrick Blood told The New York Daily News that he was served.
“Chris Brown has been served and we will see him in court,” Blood said. “The allegations made under the original restraining order are still maintained and we look forward to getting to the merits, which up until now we haven’t been able to do.”
Tran has yet to release an official statement about the latest restraining order, but TMZ said that she was hoping to come forward to “inspire other women similarly situated to come forward and confront people who brutalize them.”
