Vili Fualaau Files for Separation from Former Teacher Mary Kay Letourneau

Summary: Vili Fualaau filed for legal separation from his wife, Mary Kay Letournea, his sixth-grade grade teacher.

The love between Mary Kay Letourneau and Vili Fualaau may only be understood by a select few, but despite what the haters think, they’ve managed to keep their unconventional relationship going. That’s why it was so shocking when TMZ reported that Fualaau filed for separation from his wife and former teacher, but Radar Online reports that the separation isn’t what it looks like…

Letourneau was a married schoolteacher when she met her lover Fualaau, who was only 12 at the time. The two began an affair and when she was caught, the then 34-year-old was arrested and convicted of felony second-degree rape of a child. She took a six-month jail sentence as a plea, and she was ordered to never see her student boyfriend again.

However, Letourneau and Fualaau couldn’t stay away from each other. One month after her release, she was caught in the backseat of a car with her still-underaged lover, and she was incarcerated from 1998 to 2004 for violating her plea deal. While in jail, she gave birth to their first child, which she had conceived during that one month of freedom.

After Letourneau’s release in 2004, Fualaau, then 18, asked the court to revoke the no contact order, and the request was granted. The two married in 2005, and they now have two children.

Despite their criminal history, Letourneau, 55, and Faulaau, 33, seemed to be a happy couple, which is why the news of their separation was so surprising. But then Faulaau cleared up the confusion and told Radar Online that he was still madly in love with his former teacher and was only doing the legal paperwork to protect his business.

On May 9, Faulaau filed for separation from LeTourneau in Washington State, but he said that did not mean that their marriage was over.

“It’s not necessarily what you think,” Fualaau said. “All the rumors that you hear between us. It’s fine. Of course [we are still in love]. A piece of paper doesn’t break someone’s feelings!”

Faulaau told the publication that he wants to be licensed to sell marijuana cigarettes called “Cigaweed,” and that when applying for the license, the regulatory agency looks into the applicant and his spouse’s pasts.

“When you want to get licensed, they do background checks on both parties,” Fualaau said. “If I decide to be a part of it I have to be licensed and I have to be vetted and so does a spouse. She has a past. She has a history.”

The history Fualaau is referring to is his wife’s criminal record, although it does seem strange for him to bother filing a separation if he’s going to publicly declare that he and his infamous wife are still together. But hey, who knows what’s going on in the heads of this quirky couple, and we’ll wait and see what happens with that marijuana license.
