Summary: Aaron Carter was arrested for marijuana possession and DUI on Saturday.Â
Pop star Aaron Carter was arrested for DUI this weekend, but now the troubled former teen idol wants to sue the cops! According to TMZ, he said that there was no way they could have seen him behind the wheel and he believes that they had no right to arrest him.
Carter was busted in Cornelia, Georgia at an Autozone on Saturday, and he was asked to take a breathalyzer and refused. Habersham County deputies then searched Carter and his girlfriend’s personal items, and Carter’s rep said that there is surveillance footage that proves he wasn’t driving or even in the car when he was approached.
“Aaron’s been traveling non-stop doing promotions on his hit single ‘Sooner or Later’ across the southeast when his automobile had a new tire put on it and it went out of alignment. Aaron drove the vehicle to the nearest Auto Zone in Cornelia, GA. After being at the store and requesting help to get his alignment fixed, he was arrested inside by several police officers with aggression. The police also revoked his rights to have an attorney,” Carter’s statement read.
Carter said he was unfairly targeted because he’s a celebrity. The singer, 29, was well-known when he was a teenager for teeny bop hits like “I Want Candy” and for dating Disney starlets Lindsay Lohan and Hillary Duff. Carter is also the younger brother of Backstreet Boy, Nick Carter.
Carter was in Georgia to promote his new single when his car went out of alignment, his rep told TMZ. Cops approached Carter and asked him to be tested for drugs and alcohol, and after their search, they found marijuana. Carter said that he has a medical marijuana license because he suffers from anxiety.
Ironically, before the arrest, Carter was on the record for saying he doesn’t drink or get DUIs. He released the video last Monday in response to former Disney star Shia LaBeouf who was arrested for disorderly conduct.
“You won’t catch me getting any DUIs… I don’t even drink,” Carter said.
Carter’s girlfriend Madison Parker was also in the video, and she too was arrested in Georgia.
Carter has already posted bail, which totaled $4,610.
After the news hit, Carter’s famous brother Nick posted on Twitter that he wanted to help his younger sibling.
“To my brother: I love u no matter what & if u feel the need to reach for help, I am here and willing to help you get better. Family isn’t always easy, be we’re all here for you,” Nick Carter, 37, said.
The message, however, was met with disdain from Aaron Carter.
“If my own blood (Nick) truly cared about my well-being, why wouldn’t he call me directly and have a conversation instead of making this about him through a very public forum? That’s not cool at all to use me for his PR and kick me while I am down. I love my family despite it through thick and thin,” Aaron Carter said.
