Summary: Eversheds Sutherland has grown their international presence by opening up an office in Dusseldorf.
Eversheds Sutherland is stepping up its global presence with the addition of an office in Dusseldorf. The new office will be the fourth one in Germany for the law firm and 63rd globally. The office officially opens today, further building upon the Eversheds and Sutherland legacies.
The firm acquired the leading Dusseldorf-based firm Grooterhorst & Partners, leading to the opportunity for them to have an office in the city. They will have three partners – Ralf-Thomas Wittmann, Marc Christian Schwenke, and Dr. Johannes Grooterhorst – leading a team of eleven lawyers. The office will provide Real Estate and Insurance services until they are able to become a full-service location in the future.
Eversheds Sutherland Co-CEO Lee Ranson said, “We are committed to the strategic expansion of our global platform. Our launch in Dusseldorf, an important centre of corporate activity and the industrial heartland of Germany, is a significant milestone in the rollout of that strategy. I’m delighted to welcome our new colleagues to the firm.”
Co-CEO Mark Wasserman added, “We are excited to add such a highly respected team of industry leaders to Eversheds Sutherland. Their combined depth of experience is a natural complement to our leading practices, and takes the service we can provide to our clients to a new level.”
Eversheds Sutherland Executive Partner of Client Strategy Ian Gray said, “Many of our global clients have their German businesses in and around Dusseldorf which makes it a logical investment for us as we develop further in Europe. We go where our clients need us. Dusseldorf fits that, as well as being of strategic significance for international trade and German industry, and an important insurance centre.”
Managing Partner of the firm in Germany, Dr. Matthias Heisse commented, “We are very pleased to have attracted such a well-established and experienced team and we warmly welcome our new colleagues. Our German practice has recently made significant progress, in particular in the areas of M&A, real estate, antitrust law and conflict management. The opening of the Dusseldorf office adds momentum to these positive developments as we strengthen our position in the German market.”
Dr. Grooterhorst has over 30 years of experience aiding his reputation as a leading real estate lawyer. He advises on large-scale retail projects and serves as a member of the advisory board for the German Council of Shopping Centres.
He said, “We have followed the positive development of Eversheds Sutherland in Germany and worldwide with great interest. With its wide range of services, the international award-winning real estate practice and its strength in insurance law, Eversheds Sutherland was a natural choice for our firm.”
Schwencke is also a real estate lawyer that focuses on construction and planning law. Wittmann focuses his practice on insurance law and conflict management.
