Summary: Three ex-lovers represented by Lisa Bloom are suing Usher for herpes exposure.
Usher let it burn, and now he’s going to pay. After it was reported that the singer had paid one celebrity stylist $1.1 million for allegedly infecting her with herpes, a slew of former partners have come forward, saying he gave them the gift that keeps on giving, and they want their money too.
On Monday, three ex-lovers sued Usher Raymond, stating that he had exposed them to the genital cold sore virus and hadn’t told them. One of the accusers, Quantasia Sharpton, told The New York Daily News that she and the entertainer had romped in her hotel room two years ago while she was celebrating her 19th birthday.
Sharpton said that she did not have herpes but that she was suing him for the exposure. In California, where Usher presides, it is a criminal offense to not inform potential sexual partners of your communicable disease status.
Sharpton may have been okay with going public, but the other two alleged victims are remaining anonymous. “Jane Doe” and “John Doe” are also suing Usher; and the three plaintiffs’ attorney, Lisa Bloom, said one of them does, in fact, have herpes.
“No one in America, not even a popular celebrity, is above the law,” Bloom said.
At the press conference, Sharpton said she met Usher at a concert when she was sporting a birthday crown. She said someone noticed her and invited her backstage. Later, she returned to her hotel room, and Usher called her to come over.
“We spoke for a while and then we engaged in sexual contact. He never warned me about any STDs, it was just after my 19th birthday,” Sharpton said. “When I first heard he had herpes I couldn’t believe it…I would have never consented if I had known.”
Last month, Radar Online reported that in 2012 Usher had settled a lawsuit from a woman who said that he had given her herpes. Usher had paid the woman $1.1 million, and she said that he had lied to her about him having the disease when she asked him. In her lawsuit, she said that one time during sex, she noticed he had green discharge coming out of his penis.
In the first herpes lawsuit, the woman said that Usher was diagnosed with herpes in 2009 or 2010, and Lisa Bloom said that all of her clients had sex with him after the year of infection. She did not release other identifying details.
Usher has not yet responded to the allegations. The singer is well-known for hits such as “U Got It Bad,” “Confessions,” and “Burn,” and he owns a record label that has mega-earning star Justin Bieber signed to it. He is also a judge on NBC’s hit reality show The Voice.
