Summary: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have halted their divorce proceedings.Â
Is Brangelina going to go the distance? On Wednesday, US Weekly said that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s divorce was put on hold, after Jolie had doubts about it. On Thursday, ET clarified that the pause was because of their children, not because of a reconciliation, but fans of the couple have been given hope nevertheless.
Jolie, 42, filed for divorce from Brad Pitt, 53, last year, after over a decade of partnership. The initial filing noted “irreconcilable differences” and it was rumored that Jolie was fed up with Pitt’s drinking. She had requested joint custody of their children: Maddox Jolie-Pitt, 16, Pax Jolie-Pitt, 13, Zahara Jolie-Pitt, 12, Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, 11, and twins Knox Jolie-Pitt and Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, 9.
In an interview, Pitt acknowledged the drinking was a huge problem in their relationship, and he said that he had been working to change.
“I was a professional. I was good,” the actor said to GQ Style, referring to his drinking. “[But I didn’t] want to live that way anymore.”
Jolie had been more demure about the cause of their breakup and said that the couple had problems, but she did not detail Pitt’s addiction. She did share, however, how the split had negatively affected their six children.
But it appears that Pitt’s efforts to change have paid off. A source told E! News that Jolie had second thoughts about ending their marriage, and the divorce has been halted.
“It’s true that the divorce is not moving forward right now. They are taking a breather and seeing what happens,” the insider said.
Another source said, “They don’t take divorce lightly and want to make sure they are doing the right thing.” The source went on to say that Pitt’s sobriety has changed their relationship for the better and that Pitt is constantly working on “self-improvement.”
Before this announcement, the divorce proceedings had been tense, and a source told E! News that the former power couple mostly communicated through lawyers and assistants. In December, Jolie was granted temporary custody and Pitt was told to attend therapy sessions. Months later, however, rumors circulated that Pitt and Jolie were doing better, and photos surfaced of them spending Father’s Day with their children together.
All in all, the couple has not yet reconciled, but there is hope for the actors who met in 2005 on the set of the film Mr. and Mrs. Smith. A source told E! News that Brangelina’s relationship was “up in the air” but that “things can change quickly.”
