Chris Pratt and Anna Faris were an adorable Hollywood couple that was both aspirational and down-to-earth. The two comedic superstars had one son, Jack, that they frequently showed off on their respective social media accounts, and to fans, they were one happy family.
Which is why it was shocking when the two announced nearly a week ago that they had filed for separation.
“Anna and I are sad to announce we are legally separating. We tried hard for a long time, and we’re really disappointed. Our son has two parents who love him very much and for his sake we want to keep this situation as private as possible moving forward,” Pratt stated on his Facebook page.
Pratt and Faris had been married for eight years and were the parents of one son, Jack. In a 2014 interview in Esquire, Pratt shared that he had met Faris in 2007 on the set of the film “Take Me Home Tonight.” At the time, Faris was married so Pratt treated her like one of the guys because he didn’t think he had a shot with her.
Pratt said that the two became good friends, and that when she separated from her then-husband, he not only pounced on the opportunity to date her but he also wanted to marry her. The Guardians of the Galaxy star said they were “twin souls” who grew up nearby each other in Washington State.
Faris, who is currently starring in CBS’s hit sitcom Mom, has echoed that she and Pratt’s background was one reason they fell in love. According to CNN, a recent interview she did for Live Happy Magazine has been able to provide fans with some clues as to what went wrong.
“I can’t stand confrontation, which maybe is a character flaw,” Faris said. “But having said that, I do feel like when I do get upset, which is rare as my husband and family would say, I have a hard time letting go.”
Faris admitted that her marriage was not perfect, but she said that her husband was romantic and that they enjoyed quiet moments together.
“Our best date is an afternoon at our Washington home. Chris will put our crab pots out early in the morning, and later that day, we’ll eat fresh crab with a little butter and just look at the scenery,” Faris said. “I think that’s one of the many reasons we fit so well together.”
The split has devastated fans and caused unconfirmed rumors online to spread that Pratt’s Passengers costar Jennifer Lawrence may have played the role of the other woman, but the couple’s friend Kristen Bell told E! News that people should be more positive about their view of the separation.
“I think there’s a little bit of lack of acknowledgment about really loving something that was,” Bell said to E! News. “If there are two people that decide not to be together, it shouldn’t really be a heartbreak for everyone. You should say, ‘Oh, they tried. But that doesn’t discount the lovely years they had together.’ If I ever get divorced, I’m still going to be like, ’Wow, I loved being married to that man.”
