Summary: A Florida couple engaged in oral sex on a busy Florida beach where children playing in the sand and waves could easily see.
You can blame the Four Loko since that is what a Florida man and woman are probably trying to do after being caught performing sexual acts on the beach in front of everyone. The man, 50-year-old Jeffrey Kernan, was seen “performing oral sex on his girlfriend” on a Florida beach Sunday afternoon. The Clearwater Beach area is typically described as one of the best beaches in the United States because of its humid subtropical climate where palm trees grow and dolphins can often be seen in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
The pair were “in the middle of families” when they decided to get down and dirty, according to the police who arrested them. The officer wrote in his affidavit, “This was in front of families and children” around 5 pm. The female companion was identified as 26-year-old Alexandria Rowell.
Although the pair were seen doing the nasty, they were not charged by the officers with public indecency. Instead, the officers went after the open alcohol lying on the beach with them. Kernan, a Tampa resident, and Rowell of Winter Haven were arrested for possession of an open container of alcohol, which was a 16-ounce can of Four Loko.
Four Loko is an alcoholic drink sold in four primary drinks. The drinks received legal, ethical, and health objects when they were first marketed to underage drinkers, combining alcohol and caffeine. The drink earned the nicknames “blackout in a can” and “liquid cocaine.” An incident in 2010 where a large group of Central Washington University students became sick from consuming the drinks led to a ban of the drink in the state. Consuming a can of Four Loko was like drinking a six pack of beer and five cups of coffee.
Several states ended up banning the drinks until the company reintroduced them without caffeine, guarana, and taurine so that they are no longer considered energy drinks. Four Loko was then considered a flavored malt beverage. Depending on state regulations, they come in either 6, 7, 8, 12, or 14 percent alcohol by volume in 23.5-ounce cans. They also expanded to include several other flavors.
The pair were booked into the county jail on the misdemeanor charge. Kernan was able to post his $250 bond and released Monday afternoon from jail. Rowell is still in police custody.
The arrest affidavit suggests there was an “indication of alcohol influence.” Let’s hope they were drunk enough to think having sex in public was a good idea.
