Summary: A British porn star revealed why she gave up her legal career for the adult industry.Â
For law students who decide the law just isn’t for them, what’s next? Go to business school? Become a journalist? Start teaching? Or maybe do porn. That’s what Ella Hughes decided on, and the pretty redhead has never looked back.
Hughes wrote a piece for BBC in which she shared her journey from writing briefs to taking them off.
“I always thought I’d be a lawyer, but when I was in my first year of studying law at university, things changed. I was working so hard – in lectures from 9 am to 7 pm every day – that I couldn’t find a way to earn money. I didn’t really need the money – I had a student loan – but I hate depending on people and always wanted my own money,” Hughes wrote.
In search of some extra cash, Hughes got into modeling thanks to a tip from a friend. The photoshoots started fully clothed, but eventually, Hughes started to pose in lingerie for men’s magazines. These pictures led to offers to do porn, and this put Hughes in a tough place–choose her legal career or choose adult modeling.
“I had some reservations because I knew it would be hard to pursue a career as a lawyer if I went into porn, but I’ve always been quite sexually open. I used to go to S&M parties, and I love sex, so in the end, I decided to just try it,” said Hughes.
The 22-year-old thought it would be no big deal to shoot the porn video because she thought no one would watch it; but to her surprise, her first foray hit 4 million views. She said that it didn’t bother her to have people watch her have sex because she had already done it at naughty erotic parties, and she liked the shooting process so much that she slid into the field–doing up to 15 scenes a month.
Hughes said that her first year in law school, she tried to balance school and porn; but that her double life was eventually found out. Her professors told her that porn and the law didn’t mix and she would have to pick one. Obviously, she chose porn.
Hughes said that porn pays up to £500 to £1,000 for a shoot and up to £2,000 in America, and she calculated that before graduation, she could buy a home and car from working in the adult industry. She said that she knew lawyers are paid well but she said that those high-salaries in the legal field were not a guarantee.
“I know lawyers can eventually earn six figures a year, but it’s also really hard to pass the bar and there’s no guarantee you’ll find a job after university, so I decided that finishing my degree wasn’t for me,” Hughes wrote.
Since quitting law school, Hughes has been a successful porn star and has even appeared in Game of Thrones. Additionally, she is a webcam model and sells lingerie online, according to The Daily Mail.
