Summary: Did you know that turmeric is good for the outside of your body as well as the inside?
Turmeric has been all the rage on the health scene recently and is being praised for its many health benefits. According to Organic Facts, turmeric’s benefits include being anti-inflammatory, aiding in digestion, helping menstrual issues, helping to prevent cancer due to antioxidants, aiding heart health and detoxing the body. Turmeric lattes are now all the rage and you’ll probably find various juices in your local health store or grocery store containing turmeric as well.
While turmeric is great for the inside of your body, did you know it can also help with several cosmetic concerns? Because turmeric is naturally anti-inflammatory and has natural anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and antiseptic properties, it is ideal for skin care. Here are seven ways you can use turmeric in your beauty routine:
- Dark spots. Turmeric is great for lightening skin and reducing coloration. Just mix together equal amounts of organic turmeric, honey and lemon to create a face mask. Leave on for 15 minutes.
- Anti-aging. Make a mask by mixing egg whites with ¼ teaspoon of turmeric and apply to your face. Leave the mask on for 30 minutes and then rinse.
- Blackheads. Mix turmeric with a pinch of cinnamon and plain yogurt, then apply to the affected area and rinse after 10 – 15 minutes.
- Acne. Turmeric is great for acne because it kills the bacteria that causes acne. Mix one tablespoon of raw honey with a pinch of turmeric and use all over your face like a cleanser, finishing with a rinse.
- Acne scars. Make a paste with turmeric, rice flour and raw honey to apply to your acne prone areas. Let it dry completely then rinse with cold water.
- Teeth whitening. Place your wet toothbrush into turmeric powder and then brush your teeth, letting the turmeric sit for 3-5 minutes. Rinse, then brush again with toothpaste.
- Dandruff. Use a mixture of 1 tsp turmeric powder and 2 tablespoons coconut oil to cover your scalp. Rinse and shampoo as normal.
