Summary: After Kevin Spacey’s sex scandal, Ridley Scott has recast Christopher Plummer in “All the Money in the World.”

In an unprecedented move, director Ridley Scott announced that he is replacing Kevin Spacey in his new movie with actor Christopher Plummer. While recasting happens quite often, what makes this situation unique is that the movie has already been shot and there is only almost one month left to its release.

In October, Rent star Anthony Rapp accused Kevin Spacey of attempting to seduce him when he was 14 and Spacey was 26. The accusation, published in Buzzfeed, opened a dam where other men claimed Spacey had also sexually harassed or assaulted them.

In response, Ridley Scott decided to nix Spacey from his upcoming drama, “All the Money in the World,” a thriller about real-life billionaire J. Paul Getty III. Scott made the decision by himself, but it was later supported by the production company Imperative Entertainment and Sony Pictures.

Spacey had already shot the titular role, and the movie is scheduled for release on December 22. Plummer will replace Spacey, who will not appear in any of the final film, although Spacey’s version can be seen in clips in old trailers (see above).

“All the Money in the World” is based on the true story of Getty’s 1973 abduction. The movie also stars Charlie Plummer, Michelle Williams and Mark Wahlberg.

According to CNN, the film’s team has been feeling “several massive challenges” after the Spacey controversy erupted, and these problems include finishing the movie in six weeks and shooting Plummer’s new scenes.

“All the Money in the World” was supposed to appear at the AFI Film Festival in November, but it was pulled by its distributor Tristar Pictures out of respect to Spacey’s accusers.

“‘All the Money in the World’ is a superb film and more than worthy of its place of honor in the AFI Fest. But given the current allegations surrounding one of its actors and out of respect for those impacted, it would be inappropriate to celebrate at a gala at this difficult time,” Tristar Pictures said.

Rapp was the first to accuse Spacey, who immediately released a statement that he didn’t recall the incident and then used that moment to come out as gay. Last week, production staff at Spacey’s hit show “House of Cards” accused the star of sexual misconduct, and a news anchor said that the star had gotten her 18-year-old son drunk and groped him at a bar.

Spacey, 58, has also been accused of groping by Richard Dreyfus’ son. The American Beauty actor is currently seeking help at an undisclosed rehabilitation center.

In addition to losing the part in Scott’s film, Spacey has also been fired from “House of Cards.”
