Summary: The conservative Ohio lawmaker, who pushes his Christian faith and anti-LGBT view, was caught having sex with a man in his office.
Wes Goodman, a Republican state legislator in Ohio, has resigned from his position after being seen having sex with another man in his office. Goodman, whose wife is an assistant director of the annual anti-abortion rally called March for Life, routinely put his Christian views into his politics.
A witness found him having sex with a man, who was not an employee of the office, inside Goodman’s office. The witness went to the Ohio House Chief of Staff, Mike Dittoe, to tell him what they saw, according to the Columbus Dispatch. Dittoe then went to House Speaker Republican Cliff Rosenberger, who met with Goodman to discuss what was seen.
“I was alerted to details yesterday afternoon regarding his involvement in inappropriate behavior related to his state office. I met with him later in the day where he acknowledged and confirmed the allegations. It became clear that his resignation was the most appropriate course of action for him, his family, the constituents of the 87th House District and this institution,†Mr. Rosenberger said.
The 33-year-old legislator once referred to as the “conscience of the conservative movement,†resigned shortly after meeting with Rosenberger for “inappropriate conduct.†His Twitter biography lists him as a “Christian. American. Conservative. Republican. Husband.†His agenda included the promotion of “family values.” He has routinely argued that “natural marriage†is between a man and a woman.
His campaign website, which is no longer online, read, “Healthy, vibrant, thriving, values-driven families are the source of Ohio’s proud history and the key to Ohio’s future greatness. … The ideals of a loving father and mother, a committed natural marriage, and a caring community are well worth pursuing and protecting.â€
Goodman was elected to the 87th District in north-central Ohio just a year ago. He was an aide to US Representative Jim Jordan, a highly conservative and anti-LGBT Republican, before being elected. Goodman’s twitter has now been set as private and his Facebook page is also offline but comments he has made in the past can’t be hidden away. He said in 2013, “Faith, family, service, stewardship, strong education, and investment in our local communities are what Ohioans value. My wife Bethany and I value those same things and are ready to get to work to serve you.â€
In his statement about his resignation, Goodman said, “We all bring our own struggles and our own trials into public life. That has been true for me, and I sincerely regret that my actions and choices have kept me from service my constituents and our state in a way that reflects the best ideals of public service. For those whom I have let down, I’m sorry. As I move onto the next chapter of my life, I sincerely ask for privacy for myself, my family, and my friends.â€
