Summary: Harvey Weinstein was sued for sex trafficking.
A British actress claims that movie producer Harvey Weinstein lured her into his hotel room and sexually assaulted her. This week, she filed a lawsuit in New York, claiming that she was the victim of sex trafficking.
“I’m not the same person, you know. I’ve had to have counseling. Just so much. But I’ve had to keep it to myself. I’ve kept it to myself,” actress Kadian Noble said to CBS News.
Noble said that she met the now disgraced Hollywood mogul in London in 2014 and that he had “groomed” her. She said that he had informed her that he had a film role in mind, and she said that she believed it was a real opportunity. Later that year, Weinstein took the actress up to his hotel room at the Majestic in Cannes, and in her lawsuit, she said that he had groped her, forced her to watch him masturbate, and sexually assaulted her in his bathroom.
“I still can hear the rattle from his belt, like him undoing his belt while he had grip of me,” Noble said to CBS News.
Noble’s civil lawsuit seeks unspecified damages, and she is claiming sex-trafficking, which has a 10-year statute of limitations. She is suing not only Harvey Weinstein but also his brother Bob and their company The Weinstein Company.
“Harvey wasn’t acting alone. Harvey wasn’t allowed and enabled to do what he did to Kadian and other women without help,” said Noble’s attorney, Jeff Herman.
The lawsuit claims that Harvey Weinstein was a sex trafficker because he traveled from the United States to London and Cannes in order to commit sexual assault.
Weinstein’s spokesperson, Holly Baird, said that Weinstein denied the allegations.
“Mr. Weinstein denies allegations of non-consensual sex,” Baird told NBC News. “Mr. Weinstein has further confirmed that there were never any acts of retaliation against any women for refusing his advances.”
Weinstein was a prominent film producer and co-founder of The Weinstein Company which produced hit films such as Shakespeare in Love and Kill Bill. In October, The New York Times published a damning expose about Weinstein, where several women, including actress Ashley Judd, said that he had sexually harassed or assaulted them in the past thirty years.
After that article was released, dozens of women came forward with their horrifying tales of abuse, including Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow, Rose McGowan and Asia Argento. Weinstein was fired from The Weinstein Company, and the LAPD, NYPD, and London Police announced that they were investigating rape allegations against the producer.
