Summary: Footage of singer Randy Travis’ arrest has been released.
In 2012, Randy Travis was arrested for DWI in Texas. Earlier, he attempted to have the footage of the incident buried, but on Monday, a judge allowed the video to be released to the public.
According to TMZ, the entire video spanned 3 hours, but the website published two shorter portions that showed Travis, naked and agitated. In September, Travis filed a lawsuit to seal the video, claiming that his right to privacy would be violated if it were released. He also said that he was exhausted, drunk, and medicated at the time.
The evening Travis was arrested, the country singer had crashed his Trans Am into a Texas convenience store, and the police found him walking around the area, naked.
Travis’ rep told TMZ that the singer was intoxicated and suffered a concussion from the crash.
“Randy’s behavior was extremely altered the evening of his arrest due to the state of his mental health, and substances in his body, causing him to do and say things that were entirely out of character,” the spokesperson said.
Travis, who is well known for country hits such as “Honky Tonk Moon” and “Hard Rock Bottom of Your Heart,” stated that he was apologetic for his actions.
“Randy is deeply apologetic for his actions that evening. A man of integrity with a good heart, Randy does not and will never condone these type of actions that distort the true beliefs of Randy Travis and his entire family,” the spokesperson said.
According to Fox News, Travis has attempted to prevent the 2012 tape from going public three times.
On the evening of the crash, Travis reportedly was belligerent and threatened the life of the police officer who arrested him. Travis’ blood alcohol level was tested and found to be 0.21, more than double the state’s legal limit to drive.
Travis’ rep said that the singer plans to continue his fight against the State of Texas for allegedly violating his rights.
“Notwithstanding the release of the tape, Randy and his team will have their day in court regarding the ongoing lawsuit against the State of Texas in relation to the violation of his civil rights,” his spokesperson said.
Since the crash, Travis has been plagued with health issues. In 2013, he suffered a stroke, and he is now in a wheelchair. Yahoo News stated that the seven Grammy winning singer has relearned how to sing, but he has described his health as “damaged.”
