A former employee claims that Steve Harvey owes him millions for helping him raise money for his charity. The ex-employee, Vincent Dimmock, filed a lawsuit which Harvey’s agent said sounded “fake,” according to TMZ.
Dimmock told TMZ that he was hired in April to use his connections to raise millions for Harvey’s charity, the Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation. Dimmock said he was told he would be paid 12.5% of money earned.
Dimmock said that when he brought in the first million dollars, Harvey refused to pay up. Dimmock said that he believed Harvey never intended to honor his end of the bargain.
Harvey’s agent, Todd Frank, said that the lawsuit “sounds fake” and denied that his client would do anything alleged.
“Steve is the most loyal guy in the world,” Frank said to Pop Culture. “I’ve never been stiffed on a commission from Steve Harvey in 21 years.”
In Dimmock’s lawsuit, he further cut the Family Feud host by saying that Harvey had negative feelings about prominent people in the entertainment industry. For example, Harvey allegedly blamed Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry for giving him bad financial advice, and he allegedly blamed President Barack Obama for his much-criticized meeting with President Donald Trump earlier this year.
Dimmock also said that Harvey’s charity was in poor financial shape after Harvey committed several public missteps, including the Trump meeting and his insults about Asian men.
Steve Harvey was panned by liberals and the black community after he had met with Donald Trump in January and praised the 45th president, saying that, “Change can only happen when we sit at the table.” That same month, Harvey was also criticized for joking that Asian men were not desirable, a comment deep-rooted in racism towards Asians.
At the time, Harvey acknowledged his unpopularity, seeming to brush it off.
“They’re kind of beating me up on the Internet right now for no reason, but that’s life, isn’t it?” Harvey said.
However, in September, Harvey admitted that the public backlash had gotten to him.
“It was so vicious that it really threw me,” Harvey stated in The Hollywood Reporter.
Dimmock said that Harvey wanted him to raise $20 million for his charity, whose mission statement is “to provide outreach to fatherless youth that will cultivate the next generation of responsible leaders.”
