Summary: Every year the University of Alabama holds a law school fair so that their students interested in law can obtain more information from law schools at one time.

The University of Alabama is holding its annual Law School Fair on Thursday, February 1. The fair is an opportunity for undergraduate students to meet with law school recruiters from across the country. This year’s fair will be its largest.

There will be a number of newcomers to the fair, according to the school’s newspaper, The Crimson White. These include Boston College, Boston University, the University of California Los Angeles, and the University of Southern California.

Director of pre-law advising, Tyler Roberts, stated, “There’s approximately 205 ABA-approved law schools in the country and 85 of them will be at this event. For students who are considering law school post-grad, this would be a good event to come and start to get a feel for different schools and think about the characteristics they are looking for in their law school.”

The College of Arts and Sciences host the annual event every spring. Roberts added, “It’s an opportunity for students to learn information about schools, for schools to potentially recruit our students and to have conversations with them, and for students to hopefully make meaningful connections that can help them come application time so it should really be a valuable event for anyone who is considering law school.”

The schools attending come from all over the country, making it easier and faster for students to get acquainted with several schools in one afternoon. Most of the schools are from the Southeast, Midwest and East Coast but there are a few from the West Coast and Rocky Mountain regions attending.

The pre-law group also has a number of other events going on this week including a young attorneys panel, mock admissions panel, and paying for law school presentation. During the young attorney’s panel, a group of young legal professionals in the Tuscaloosa area come together to discuss their career paths, experiences in law school and answer questions.

The mock admissions panel is comprised of law school admissions professionals like Associate Dean for Admissions at Richmond School of Law Michelle Rahman and Associate Dean of Admissions at Widener University Commonwealth Law School John Benfield. The panel will delve into real law school applications, highlighting the positive and negative parts before determining the candidacy of the applicants.

The financial presentation is given by Kim Siwarski of Access Group, who will cover topics like the cost of education, how to find financial aid, how to get financially fit, and more.

Do you think there need to be more law school fairs so that students can get a better idea of law school and how feasible of an option it can be? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.
