Cap’n Crunch, a cereal product by the Quaker Oats Company, has been around since 1963. There are now over 20 variations of the sugar-coated corn cereal. A man in Alabama loves his Cap’n Crunch so much he would fight for them, and that is exactly what he did.
Duane Barry Smith, 52, allegedly beat up his roommate when he discovered that the roommate did not properly seal the box, allowing the cereal to go stale. According to the police report obtained by The Smoking Gun, Smith was arrested for domestic violence.
Smith got into a confrontation with the man he shares a residence with in Moundville, a town outside Tuscaloosa. The police reported that Smith grew upset upon realizing that his cereal was stale because his roommate did not do his part to keep them fresh. The report explains that Smith has missing teeth so consuming stale cereal is harder for him.
The argument began with Smith demanding his roommate try to eat the stale cereal by removing his dentures. The roommate refused to remove his dentures to eat the cereal like Smith does, which angered Smith. This is when Smith began hitting the roommate with an electrical cord. The Moundville Times reported that the man received injuries to his arm, hand, and face.
It is not known if Smith was still in the Hale County Jail or had posted bond for the misdemeanor charge.
