Fans of “Grey’s Anatomy” learned on Monday that McSteamy is available. According to PEOPLE, actor Eric Dane who played Dr. Mark Sloan on the hit ABC TV drama is divorcing his wife of 14 years, Rebecca Gayheart.
“After 14 years together we have decided that ending our marriage is the best decision for our family,” Dane, 45, told PEOPLE. “We will continue our friendship and work as a team to co-parent our two beautiful girls as they are the most important thing in the world to us. We kindly ask that you respect our privacy during this time as we navigate the next phase of our lives.”
Gayheart and Dane married in October of 2004, and they have two children. Their first daughter was born in 2010 and their second followed quickly in 2011. According to TV Guide, Gayheart took time off from acting after the birth of her children.
Gayheart was a popular teen actress in the late 1990s, and she was well-known for her ice-blue eyes and big curly hair. She starred in movies like “Jawbreaker” and “Urban Legend” as well as TV shows such as “Beverly Hills, 90210.”
Dane is best known for starring on “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Charmed,” and he is currently on the show “The Last Ship.” Last year, he took a break from production because he suffered from depression.
“I took some time off — I was dealing with some depression, which was kind of odd to me,” Dane said, according to PEOPLE. “I felt very conflicted about it because I didn’t really feel like I had anything to be depressed about.”
The couple had been married for over 14 years, and during their time together, some bad aspects of their private lives were exposed. In 2009, an unauthorized sex tape was released of the two of them engaged in a threesome, and years later, Dane attended rehab for addiction to painkillers.
Before the marriage, Gayheart killed a boy after hitting him with her car. She was prosecuted for vehicular manslaughter and plead no contest, according to TMZ. She was placed on probation and settled the wrongful-death lawsuit out of court.
Gayheart, 46, filed for divorce on Friday in Los Angeles and is seeking spousal support and joint custody of the couple’s two daughters. She cited the reason for the split as irreconcilable differences.
