Summary: Brian P. Meehan was disbarred following the attorney’s guilty plea of paying for underage sex at his office.
A 59-year-old Philadelphia lawyer paid to have sex with an underage girl at his office in Center City. Brian P. Meehan entered a guilty plea for having sex with a 14-year-old trafficking victim in 2014. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court announced the formal disbarment of Meehan, retroactive to November 6.
According to Metro, Meehan has also submitted a letter to the court for his resignation. He is serving a two to four-year sentence plus eight years of probation for his guilty plea of statutory sexual assault and other charges related to paying an underage victim for sex at his office at One Penn Center.
The victim was forced to have sex with dozens of men, but the only one she was able to identify was Meehan. The victim is originally from Germantown but was trafficked to Georgia and Camden. She was picked up for theft where federal investigators interviewed her about her history of abuse. According to the Philadelphia DA’s office, the girl was able to identify Meehan as one of the men she was forced to have sex with. She told the investigators that she remembered his name on the door of his office at his former law firm Bishop, Dorfman, Lazaroff & Meehan. She also told them that Meehan referred to himself by his last name.
After interviews with the victim in October 2014, investigators searched his office. They were able to obtain sperm from his office couch and rug that tested positive for his DNA. The victim explained that those two places were where the forced oral and vaginal sex took place.
The grand jury presentment also stated that Meehan bragged to the victim about his preference for younger girls after they had sex in the law firm’s conference room on the 12th floor. He allegedly told her “he liked younger girls” and that the youngest he had sex with was a 12-year-old.
The law firm fired Meehan immediately. He surrendered himself to the authorities and pleaded guilty in November to involuntary deviate intercourse, statutory sexual assault, promoting prostitution of a minor, and corrupting the morals of a minor. He will be registered a sex offender after his release.
The investigation determined that Shante Fenning and Robert Harris trafficked the girl, who they knew. They kidnapped her after school, forcing her to have sex with about 20 men a week out of a house just blocks from her home. Her family had reported her as missing to police.
Meehan was a criminal defense and personal injury attorney. He knew Fenning and Harris from his representation of them in another case. Fenning was sentenced to six to 12 years behind bars plus 10 years of probation. Harris received 14 to 28 years in prison with eight years of probation.
