Summary: An Illinois man rammed the Peoria airport terminal and boarded an empty plane because the zombie apocalypse was coming.

An Illinois man rammed his car into an airport, boarded an empty plane, and then tried to steal a sheriff deputy’s squad car because he believed the zombie apocalypse was coming. The Peoria man drove his car into the airport terminal in fear that a zombie apocalypse was going to happen.

A grand jury indicted 27-year-old Justin T. Deemie for home invasion, residential burglary, possession of a stolen motor vehicle and criminal damage to government-supported property. Peoria County Prosecutor Steve Pattelli told the Journal Star that Deemie had been using drugs on February 17 when he began to worry about zombies early that morning.

He stole a 2005 Ford Escape from the woman of a neighboring apartment. He broke into her apartment in order to find the keys to the Ford Escape. Once he found the keys, he drove to Gen. Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport where he tried to ram the car into the terminal. Deemie was then able to access a restricted and secured area of the airport where he found his way onto the tarmac and onto an empty airplane, according to Pattelli.

When Deemie realized the airplane was empty and he couldn’t flee the zombies that way, he exited the plane and found a squad car belonging to a Peoria County sheriff deputy. Using a landscape brick, he smashed the back window so he could drive the car to Florida.

Before Deemie was even able to move the car, the sheriff’s deputy was able to shut off his car remotely. When Deemie tried to run away from the now useless squad car, the deputy and other officers cornered Deemie. They took Deemie to the hospital to obtain a toxicology report and to treat the injuries he had received from ramming the car and other reckless stunts.

Deemie’s actions caused nearly half a dozen flights from the airport to be canceled or delayed that day.

Deemie was booked into the Peoria County Jail on $500,000 bond pending his arraignment hearing Thursday. If he is convicted of all the charges, he could be behind bars for 30 years.
