The Top 12 Walking Workouts That Will Get You Fit

Summary: You may have heard about some of the benefits of walking, but have you started walking regularly yet? If not, get started with one of these 12 walking workouts.

With activity trackers being all the rage for several years now, most of us know that getting in more movement, especially walking, is good for us. Walking can help prevent heart disease, reduce your risk of diabetes, lower stress levels, and improve the mind/body connection. For those of you who dislike running, you should know that The Journal of Applied Physiology found that brisk walking with handheld weights is even comparable to a slow jog.

Because of technology and the structure of businesses, most of us spend the majority of our days sitting at a desk or sitting on our couch, which leaves very little time to get our blood pumping and our bodies moving. If you want to improve your health, you have to be proactive about walking and moving your body more. Try putting a walk in your schedule during the week, whether that’s during your lunch hour or after dinner with your family. Even consider getting an activity tracker, many of which allow you to compete with friends and family to encourage you further.

Here are twelve walking workouts or plans to add to your current workout routine or to get you started on a path to a healthier life.
