The t-shirt lawsuit against Kendall and Kylie Jenner has been dropped. According to PEOPLE, photographer Michael Miller dismissed his lawsuit against the celebrity sisters after originally accusing them of using his photo without permission.
Kendall and Kylie Jenner released a line of t-shirts last year with rapper Tupac Shakur’s image on them, but the sisters were sued by photographer, Miller, because they allegedly used his picture without authorization.
On Wednesday, Miller and the Jenner sisters filed motions to dismiss the lawsuit. PEOPLE did not list whether or not the sisters paid Miller any damages.
Last summer, the Jenners released a vintage-looking t-shirts for $125 a piece through their clothing line Kendall + Kylie. Miller said that they used his photos of Tupac Shakur without his permission, and he filed a lawsuit for copyright infringement.
Besides the lawsuit, the Kendall + Kylie t-shirts faced backlash because the sisters had superimposed their own faces onto images of them with deceased musicians, including Tupac Shakur and the Notorious B.I.G. Fans said that this was insensitive, and the expensive t-shirts were pulled from the internet after the controversy erupted.
The sisters apologized for their designs after the t-shirts were released.
“These designs were not well thought out and we deeply apologize to anyone that has been upset and/or offended, especially to the families of the artists. We are huge fans of their music and it was not our intention to disrespect these cultural icons in any way. The tee shirts have been pulled from retail and all images have been removed. We will use this as an opportunity to learn from these mistakes and again, we are very sorry,” the Jenners said on Twitter.
The brand also told PEOPLE that they apologized to fans for being insensitive to the families of the deceased artists.
“The Kendall + Kylie brand apologizes for any insensitivity. When deciding to work with one-of-a-kind repurposed vintage tees, it was not the brand’s intent to offend anyone,” the brand said. “These designs were randomly selected and not well thought out. The brand would like to apologize, especially to the artists that have been featured in the series. We did not mean to disrespect these icons and understand that we missed the mark completely. The designs have been removed. We sincerely apologize to the artists, their families and estates and anyone who may have been offended.”
