Attorney Elena Gordon Smuggled Opioids into Prison

Summary: Massachusetts attorney Elena Gordon is accused of smuggling drugs into a maximum security prison.

A Massachusetts attorney was charged with smuggling drugs into a Plymouth prison. Elena Gordon, 43, was arrested by state police after a “several months-long investigation” uncovered what Gordon was doing, according to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.

CBS Boston reported that the investigation alleges that Gordon smuggled $12,000 worth of Suboxone, an opioid, into the maximum security prison Plymouth County House of Correction. Suboxone is a painkiller used to treat heroin addiction but the drug is highly addictive so some use it to get high.

The prosecutors stated, “The investigation alleges that on May 4, 2018, Gordon, who is an attorney, utilized her attorney privileges to gain entrance to the jail, where she brought Suboxone strips in manila envelopes and allegedly passed them to an inmate.”

She has pleaded not guilty during her arraignment to numerous drug charges and held on $1,000 bail. They believe she had an accomplice in the prison and another accomplice who was arrested Thursday morning. The investigation into Gordon and the others began after the arrest of two court officers in Brockton last winter.
