Summary: After filing a police report in April, Faith Rodgers sued R.Kelly on Monday for allegedly infecting her with herpes without her consent.
A woman claims that she was once a sex slave to R.Kelly, and she said that he “willfully, deliberately and maliciously” infected her with herpes as a means of coercion. The woman, Faith Rogers, said that she had been abused by the singer since she was a teenager, and she filed a lawsuit in Texas on Monday seeking unspecified damages, according to CBS News.
Rodgers appeared on CBS This Morning on Tuesday and spoke about her time in R.Kelly’s alleged sex cult. She said that she met Kelly in 2017 when she was 19 years old, and they were in a relationship for about one year. She said during their time together, he told her to call him “daddy” and he gave her instructions on how to sexually please him. Rodgers said she was introduced to one of five other women in which Kelly had a similar relationship with.
In Rodgers’ lawsuit, she alleged sexual battery and false imprisonment. She said that the singer gave her herpes without telling her he had the disease, and he used the infection as a means to control her.
“For over 20 years, women across America have been victimized by R. Kelly, and have filed eerily similar claims,” Rodgers’ attorney, Faith C. Hills, told NPR.
Rodgers said that when she met Kelly, now 51, he had promised to help her start a career in entertainment. This is a similar story to what other people have alleged he said in order to woo young women into his bed.
In her lawsuit, Rodgers said that Kelly’s assistant arranged for her to fly to one of his concerts, and afterward, they had awkward sex in his hotel room for the first time. Rodgers said she wasn’t ready to have sex, and her lack of enthusiasm angered the singer. Nonetheless, they continued to see each other, and Rodgers said that whenever Kelly was angry at her, he would lock her in closets without food or water to punish her. Rodgers said that there were times when Kelly would instruct his assistant to bar the door so that Rodgers couldn’t run away.
Earlier this month, three other women, Lizette Martinez, Tracy Sampson and Patrice Jones, made similar allegations against Kelly.
For almost twenty years, rumors of Kelly’s proclivity for young women have haunted him, and he was even married to singer Aaliyah when she was 15 years old.
Kelly has denied sexual assault allegations, and in response to Sampson and Jones’ claims, his publicist stated, “R. Kelly has close friendships with a number of women who are strong, independent, happy, well cared for and free to come and go as they please. We deny the many dark descriptions put forth by instigators and liars who have their own agenda for seeking profit and fame.”
