Summary: Stetson Law made history as the first law school to receive a perfect four-for-four record on their student groups’ advancement to the national competitions.

The American Bar Association Competitions has a new winner. Stetson University College of Law’s Dispute Resolution Board won its first ever perfect four-for-four record of advancing to nationals in all four dispute resolution competitions provided by the ABA. This is the first time a law school has done achieved this distinction, according to a school announcement.

The competition, sponsored by the ABA Law Student Division, had over 1,300 students from 156 law schools participate this year. The competitions that the students participate in cover all areas the Dispute Resolution Board handles – arbitration, client counseling, and negotiation – and the Moot Court Board competing in the national appellate advocacy competition.

The Stetson Law students involved were Jahanna Azarian and Vanessa Denk. They finished as national semifinalists in the national client counseling competition and first in the regional competition. Allison Belanger and Christina Huckfeldt were national semifinalists in the national negotiation competition and finalists in the regional competition. Max Brown, Olivia Mejido, Caroline Garrity, and Meghan Sullivan captured first in the regional arbitration competition. Julia Alley and Mark Joseph also took first in the regional mediation competition.

Stetson Law Dean and Professor of Law Christopher M. Pietruszkiewicz said, “We are delighted to be recognized by the preeminent organization of our nation’s lawyers. Importantly, these skills are the foundation on which our students will build their professional careers to effectively represent clients and advocate for our communities.”
