USC Law Opens Online Human Resources Certificate Program

Summary: An online human resources certificate program is now being offered by USC Gould School of Law.

The University of Southern California Gould School of Law announced they will be offering a new certificate program that can be completed online. The law school created the program for human resources professionals wanting to advance in their field.

The Human Resources Law & Compliance certificate will be available this fall to lawyers and non-lawyers that are wanting to advance their abilities in the legal aspect of human resources. The hope is that it will expand career opportunities for those interested in employment related issues.

Current online student Jessica Gross said, “I have been able to apply legal concepts, that I never really knew too much about, in my actual, everyday work life.”

The program focuses on human resources law and compliance, which is important for human resource managers handling negotiations, compliance managers dealing with risk management involving employees, and others in the human resources field, according to associate deal and chief programs officer of the Graduate and International Programs Deborah Call.

Call explained, “Graduates often tell us that to enhance their professional careers in top companies, government offices and law firms, they must have mastered fundamental legal concepts and compliance skills. We believe that our online Human Resources Law & Compliance Certificate will greatly benefit middle managers who are looking to advance to the executive track.”

Course topics include contemporary issues in human resource compliance, employment discrimination law, employment dispute mediation, human resource compliance, and regulatory compliance.

Current online student Diana Vanderlaan added, “This experience has been professionally and personally rewarding. It has been the best experience of my life.”

Students can earn the certificate in as short as nine months. Students can take the courses individually or in conjunction with the LLM or MSL degree as a specialization, according to the news release on PR Newswire. The faculty overseeing the online courses are many of the same accomplished faculty members for main law school.

The program’s students will have access to academic advising, career development, students support, and bar exam preparation through the school’s Graduate and International Programs Office.
