Summary: These ten law schools, private and public institutions, have the lowest acceptance rates.

Waiting for the day an acceptance letter to a top law school comes may not happen for some. There are a number of law schools that have high numbers of applications but very few who actually get accepted into those schools. Solid academic credentials will not guarantee acceptance to more selective law schools, who are receiving applications from thousands of top students.

Students that tend to stand out from those with similar academic qualifications have work experience and a personal statement that are exceptional. Generally, the average acceptance rate of the 193 ranked law schools who reported their 2017 fall acceptance rates was 48 percent, according to U.S. News.

These ten law schools are the most competitive with acceptance rates below 25 percent. The average of these ten schools is just 16.3 percent. The applications these schools received are from full-time and part-time applicants:

Texas A&M University – received 1,862 applications for 140 spots for an acceptance rate of 7.5 percent

Yale University – received 2,862 applications for 240 spots for an acceptance rate of 8.4 percent

Stanford University – received 3,952 applications for 392 spots for an overall acceptance rate of 9.9 percent



Harvard University – received 5,711 applications for 900 spots for an acceptance rate of 15.8 percent

University of Pennsylvania – received 5,601 applications for 986 spots for an acceptance rate of 17.6 percent

University of Virginia – received 5,049 applications for 923 spots for an 18.3 percent acceptance rate

Columbia University – received 5,829 applications for 1,184 spots for a 20.3 percent acceptance rate

University of Chicago – received 4,459 applications for 958 spots for a 21.5 percent acceptance rate

University of Michigan-Ann Arbor – received 5,284 applications for 1,157 spots for an acceptance rate of 21.9 percent

Cornell University – received 3,809 applications for 844 spots for an acceptance rate of 22.2 percent
