Summary: Chris Brown was arrested for an incident that occurred last year.
Chris Brown was arrested on Thursday night in Florida for allegedly punching a man in a nightclub last year.
Tampa police spokesman Stephen Hegarty said that Brown, 29, punched the man after the singer noticed him trying to take Brown’s picture. Brown was at a nightclub for a paid appearance when the victim, the club’s photographer, tried to take his photo.
The victim said that he got a cut on his lip but declined professional medical treatment.
Last year, the club, AJA Channelside, acknowledged Brown’s actions and condemned them.
“Incidents like the ones caused by Chris Brown and his team are very sad to see. As everyone witnessed he showed up to the club at around 1:30am. After only a few minutes of being there, Chris Brown himself and his team assaulted our club photographer and proceeded to walk out of the venue. AJA Channelside and our employees apologize for the inconvenience. Assault charges were pressed and we are dealing with the proper authorities accordingly. We appreciate your constant support!”
Brown was arrested after he performed at a concert in West Palm Beach at the Coral Sky Amphitheater. He was released after an hour on $2,000 bail, according to PEOPLE.
Brown is famous for his hit songs such as With You and One Night, but his entertainment career has been marred with his numerous personal troubles.
In 2009, Brown was arrested for physically assaulting his then-girlfriend, Rihanna, and pictures of her bruised face went viral online. Brown received five years of probation and community service for felony assault and making criminal threats, but his violent behavior did not appear to be curbed.
Over the years, Brown has been publicly accused by people ranging from his ex-manager to Karrueche Tran of assault. Tran dated Brown after Rihanna, and she was granted a five-year restraining order against the singer in 2017 after she said he had continuously beat and threatened her.
Brown has been sued in civil court for various assault charges also. For instance, his ex-manager Mike G said that Brown attacked him even though he was trying to revitalize his career. In Mike G’s lawsuit, he said that Brown would not apologize for the violence but instead made fun of him on social media.
After Brown’s recent arrest, he also appeared to be unfazed. On early Friday, he posted an Instagram with an eyeroll emoji that stated, “What’s NEW??? Show tomorrow!!!!”
