Zachary Kramer, a legal scholar and administrator with a philosophy of inclusivity and a drive to give students the best possible legal education has been named the next Dean of Elon University School of Law. Currently, the Interim Dean and Jonathan & Wendy Rose Professor of Law at Arizona State University’s Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law, Kramer will formally join the Elon Law community in June.
Kramer has served the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law for the past decade in several leadership roles and is also a prolific scholar who has written numerous articles on civil rights law and presented on the same topics at conferences across the United States. He has also mentored students and colleagues as an advisor to student organizations and a member of multiple college committees and working groups.
Kramer sees his new role as an “ambassador” for Elon Law’s highly experiential approach to teaching and hopes to deepen institutional connections among alumni and within the broader legal profession. He also prioritizes inclusive excellence and breaking down barriers in the legal profession and society through partnerships with law firms and other employers, engagement with alumni, and listening to students.
Kramer is enthusiastic about joining the Elon Law community and continuing its success. Since implementing its 2.5-year, the seven-trimester curriculum in 2014, the number of annual applications for admissions has increased by 50%, and average student loan debt at graduation has decreased by nearly a third. Kramer believes universities are opportunities and is committed to serving an institution dedicated to changing students’ lives.
