The lawsuit against journalist Bob Woodward and publisher Simon & Schuster Inc. alleges that they violated Trump’s copyright by selling his recorded conversations with Woodward in an audiobook. According to Trump, he agreed to the interviews but did not agree to the publication of the recordings.
Garson said that he approaches cases with a strong focus on evidence and is not concerned about potential ethics violations or sanctions imposed on one of Trump’s lawyers, Alina Habba. In a previous case against Hillary Clinton, Habba and Trump were ordered to pay nearly $1 million in sanctions for a “completely frivolous” case. Garson stated that if he were to prioritize his interests over those of his clients, he would not be fulfilling his role as a lawyer.
Garson is the president of the American Association of Jewish Lawyers and Jurists and is known for speaking out against antisemitism and discrimination. He has criticized Kanye West, formerly known as Ye, on Twitter as a “vile anti-Semite.” Despite this, Garson has not commented on Trump’s dinner with Ye, who brought Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida.
Garson has taken a stance on various legal controversies, including a ban on Zionist speakers at the University of California at Berkeley School of Law. He wrote that the ban was “abhorrent and appalling” and “intellectually bankrupt.” He also wrote an open letter defending a faculty member of the University of Arkansas School of Law who was told he could no longer find substitutes for Jewish holidays.

He recently lost a trademark case in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and is facing a malpractice suit for work done on behalf of cybersecurity company SCE Group Inc. in its acquisition of another company. The malpractice suit claims that Garson enlisted the help of his brother, a lawyer in Australia and that SCE Group Inc. is entitled to damages under a New Jersey law that allows recovery for losses from the unauthorized practice of law. Garson has dismissed the malpractice suit as “frivolous.”
