Lewis Brisbois Strengthens Cybersecurity Capabilities With New Hires

Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith, a Los Angeles-based law firm, has hired six lawyers to join its cybersecurity practice. The new hires are former employees of the rival law firm Wilson Elser Moskowitz Edelman & Dicker. The new hires will be working across four different offices in the country. They will focus on handling data privacy compliance, pre- and post-incident cybersecurity, and national and international breach response.

One of the key hires, Robert Walker, will join the firm in Jackson, Mississippi. He will work alongside two associates and serve as the firm’s data privacy and cybersecurity practice chair. Ross Molina has joined the firm as a partner in New Orleans, Tawana Johnson has joined in Atlanta, and another associate will be based in Houston.

Bob Smith, co-chairman of Lewis Brisbois, has stated that the new team will expand the firm’s “breach response and counseling” offerings for insurance and corporate-based clients. The recent hire of these six lawyers comes after 32 Lewis Brisbois lawyers and 12 business professionals left the firm in January to form a cybersecurity group at Atlanta-based labor and employment law firm Constangy, Brooks, Smith & Prophete.

Walker, who has spent almost four years at Wilson Elser, served as the cybersecurity and data practice co-chair. When contacted, Wilson Elser did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the departures.

Hiring these six lawyers by Lewis Brisbois is an important step in strengthening the firm’s cybersecurity practice and expanding its breach response and counseling offerings for clients. The lawyers have extensive experience handling data privacy compliance, pre- and post-incident cybersecurity, and national and international breach response.
