Summary: Democratic leaders are asking the House to investigate the sexual misconduct allegations against President Donald Trump.

President Donald Trump has been accused by multiple women of sexual misconduct, but he has not received the professional consequences that his White House colleagues such as Al Franken or Jim Conyers have endured. Now 56 female Democratic lawmakers have asked the House oversight committee to investigate the sexual misconduct claims against Trump, NBC News reported.

The Democratic Women’s Working Group wrote a letter to committee chairman Representative Trey Gowdy, a Republican from South Carolina, and ranking member, Representative Elijah Cummings, a Democrat from Maryland. They asked for a full inquiry into the accusations from at least 17 women who said Trump had harassed or groped them.

“At least 17 women have publicly accused the President of sexual misconduct,” the letter stated. “We cannot ignore the multitude of women who have come forward with accusations.”

On Tuesday, Trump said that he had never met the accusers and said their stories were fake. He also went on a strange rant against Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, who had spoken out against him, and he had alluded that she had offered him sexual favors in exchange for his help in the past.

“Lightweight Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, a total flunky for Chuck Schumer and someone who would come to my office ‘begging’ for campaign contributions not so long ago (and would do anything for them), is now in the ring fighting against Trump. Very disloyal to Bill & Crooked-USED!” the president tweeted.

Gillibrand responded that Trump was attempting to silence her and that she would continue to call for his resignation.

“It was a sexist smear attempting to silence my voice, and I will not be silenced on this issue. Neither will the women who stood up to the president yesterday,” Gillibrand said.

On Monday, Gillibrand went on television to state that Trump should step aside as president due to the allegations against him. That same day, three women appeared on “Megyn Kelley Today” to recall their experiences with Trump, which included him allegedly forcing a kiss on them.

Before Trump was elected, a tape of him admitting to sexual misconduct was released. He was chatting on a hot mic with Access Hollywood host Billy Bush when he spoke about how he pushed himself onto beautiful women.

“You know, I’m automatically attracted to beautiful — I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything,” Trump said. “Grab ’em by the pussy. You can do anything.”

Trump later denied saying what he said on tape, but Billy Bush confirmed that the recording was real and condemned Trump’s words.

One of the women who appeared on “Megyn Kelly Today” said that Trump should be held accountable the way that men in other industries have been.

“It became apparent that in some areas the accusations of sexual aggression were being taken seriously and people were being held accountable, except for our president, and he was not being held accountable,” Jessica Leeds said.

Leeds said that she was once seated in an airplane next to Donald Trump and he had grabbed her breasts and tried to put his hands up her skirt.
