Summary: The White House has hired a Disney star as a new press assistant.
A former Disney Channel star is joining the Trump administration. According to CNN, Caroline Sunshine has accepted a position as a press assistant.
Sunshine is known for starring alongside Zendaya on the Disney Channel show “Shake It Up.” The show was about teen dancers and ran from 2010 to 2013.
Sunshine, 22, established herself in the entertainment industry from a young age, but she has recently been planting roots in politics. This year, she was a White House intern, and that internship led to her assistant position.
“Caroline Sunshine was a White House intern. In college, she was involved with the American Enterprise Institute and an active member of her school’s Model United Nations team. Prior to her internship at the White House, Caroline interned for the Office of House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, the College Republican National Committee and the California Republican Party,” White House spokeswoman Lindsay Walters told CNN.
CNN said that Sunshine had applied for the internship position through the White House website like other candidates.
According to NPR, it is unclear what Sunshine’s duties will be.
NPR noted that President Donald Trump’s administration is welcoming to those from the entertainment or media world. For instance, Trump himself was the star of NBC’s The Apprentice years before he took office, and he brought a former contestant on that show, Omarosa Manigault Newman, into the administration.
NPR added that although Sunshine has a high follower count on Twitter and Instagram, she does not tweet about her political views.
Sunshine attended college at Claremont McKenna College. She is a native of California.
According to Deadline, “[Sunshine’s] new position with the White House press team comes at a time when the Trump administration has become a revolving door of hirings and firings. National security adviser H.R. McMaster was recently replaced with former US ambassador to the UN John Bolton. Before that, Attorney General Jeff Sessions fired deputy FBI director Andrew McCabe — a day before he was about to retire. And before that Trump booted secretary of state, Rex Tillerson and put CIA Director Mike Pompeo.”
