Summary: A trial has been set for “Smallville” actress Allison Mack who was accused of luring women into a sex cult.

On Friday, “Smallville” actress Allison Mack was reunited with alleged cult leader Keith Raniere. The two appeared in a court in Brooklyn to face charges of sex trafficking, and Judge Nicholas Garaufis set a trial date for October 1, 2018, according to Fox News.

The two are accused of coercing vulnerable women into the sex cult “DOS” which was a secret sub-group of the self-help organization, NXIVM. Raniere started NXIVM, and Mack allegedly joined as a sex slave and worked her way up to be a group leader. Women who joined DOS were told to have sex with Raniere, and they were often starved to meet his ideal of feminine beauty.

Prosecutors said that Mack and Raniere branded the women with their initials and extorted them into joining and staying by collecting damaging information about them including secrets or nude photographs.

Raniere, 57, is being held in jail until his court date, but Mack, 35, was allowed out on a $5 million bail.

The revelations of Mack’s alleged involvement in a sex cult is shocking, considering her clean-cut appearance, but Fox News said that there has been a history of sex cults that attract Hollywood stars or attract victims because of stars.

For instance, singer R.Kelly has been accused by multiple people of running a sex cult, where he has relationships with multiple women and controls everything from what they eat to when they shower. One accuser said that he bragged about grooming a teenager for sex, and he has been sued this year for allegedly giving his sex slaves an STD in order to control them. R.Kelly denies these allegations.

Mack and Raniere also deny the sex trafficking charges against them, but if they are convicted, they face up to 15 years in prison.

Before the arrests, NXIVM was a multi-million dollar self-help organization that offered seminars around the country. It attracted celebrities such as mogul Richard Branson and actress Kristen Kreuk, and according to the New York Daily News, prosecutors said to expect more arrests.

Prosecutors said that they plan to amend their original indictment to include more defendants, but they did not say who they were. NXIVM was sponsored by prominent people such as Sara and Clare Bronfman, who are heirs to the Seagram’s fortune, but backers have denied knowing about Raniere’s alleged illegal activities.

Raniere has said that his sexual activities were consensual and that the women involved were consenting adults.

“A lot of adult, strong-minded, free-willed women made decisions for their own lives and made their own choices,” Raniere’e attorney said to the New York Daily News. “That’s what the evidence is going to show.”
