Recently, attorney Michael Cohen scrubbed mentions of his role as Trump’s go-to guy on his social media, promptly widespread speculation. According to NBC News, Cohen removed a reference to Trump in his Twitter profile, where he once proudly stated that he was Trump’s personal lawyer.

But now Cohen seems to be distancing himself from Trump, who is being investigated by Special Counsel Robert Mueller for possibly colluding with Russia to win the 2016 Presidential Election. Cohen is also under investigation for several possible crimes, including a campaign finance law violation.

This year, Cohen’s New York office was raided as well as his home and hotel room after he revealed that he had paid porn star Stormy Daniels $130,000 to sign a non-disclosure agreement. In 2016, Daniels was shopping around a story about how she had an affair with Trump in 2006, and Cohen paid her hush money from an LLC he owned.

The Daniels story was revealed to the public in January, and shortly after, Cohen said that Trump was not involved with the payment. His admission sparked the interest of Mueller and his team, who raided his office, looking for information about the deal.

After Cohen’s office was raided, speculation swirled that he would flip on Trump like other members of Trump’s inner circle, but Cohen has yet to do so. In fact, Cohen was quoted as saying, “Boss, I miss you so much,” to Trump as recently as April, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Cohen has been Trump’s personal attorney for years, and many consider him to be Trump’s “fixer.” Cohen’s loyalty to Trump is well-known, but in an interview with ABC, Cohen said that his first loyalty was to his family and his country, causing more speculation that he may turn.

“Once I understand what charges might be filed against me, if any at all, I will defer to my new counsel, Guy Petrillo, for guidance,” Cohen told the network. “To be crystal clear, my wife, my daughter and my son, and this country have my first loyalty.”
