The Obama Administration’s plan to review the cases of 300,000 immigrants currently in deportation proceedings to identify “low-priority” offenders has sparked a debate in Washington and beyond. The new guidelines direct the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to target for deportation those “who have been convicted of crimes or pose a security risk,” and “clear out low-priority cases.”
