Would you like a gift basket full of money? Reports have it that a certain law firm gives out “basketfuls” of cash for referring people to their law firm. The clients are known to keep the cash if they give referrals to Kutner.
You may be surprised to hear that employees were fired from this firm for cooperating with a state investigation. The state bar is actually doing the investigation and it is not looking good. One of the employees returned to work after having a baby and was treated to a verbally abusive work environment.
One of the former employees who is known by the name Lindsay Gibbs was one of the people asked to put the gift cards together. Lindsay says “she was asked to assemble “gift baskets,” for which she “was given stacks of $100 bills totaling anywhere between $1,300 and $2,500 and sent to Wal-Mart to purchase gift cards in the amount of $250 each.”
These baskets, after they were assembled, were delivered to the homes of “former clients.” Adam Kutner was one of the master minds behind this basketful of money scandal. When Gibbs confronted her boss about the situation she was quickly taken off of the task. Soon after this incident the Nevada Bar Association was knocking on this law firm’s door.
One of the employees states that “in July this year, Lyons and Cynthia Douglass, Kutner’s human resources manager, escorted her to a conference room, closed the door and interrogated her.” This particular employee was told to retract her statements that were given to the Bar Association. When she declined she was basically held in the room without a chance to leave.
“When she rose from her chair to leave, she says Lyons and Douglass “stood up to prevent [her] from leaving the room, placing Tenner in fear of her personal safety.” Gibbs later walked into the room and was able to contact the lawyers. The lawyers later entered and helped the employee leave the scene unharmed.
Tenner (the other employee) was eventually released from her position. Not too long after this incident, Gibbs was also put on suspension without an explanation.
“Plaintiffs seek punitive damages for the charges mentioned above, and for false imprisonment, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. They are represented by John Marcin with Marcin Lambirth.”
Tenner and Gibbs plan on fighting for their rights as employees and citizens. Kutner is under a lot of scrutiny and will be facing this law suit in court very soon. The State Bar of Nevada is still keeping a close eye on this case and will continue to do so. Now, the investigation is still going on with the bar as well as the lawsuit against Kutner from Tenner and Gibbs.
