Last week, a very angry recent law graduate emailed a very hate-filled letter to the alumni officers at his alma mater, Loyola Law School-Los Angeles. The very rude graduate called out the career services office and the dean, Victor Gold.

The graduate sent out his letter on Tuesday of last week, and the following Thursday, alumni services decided it was high-time to have their alumni mixer.

Coincidence or not?

The angry graduate forwarded along the alumni mixer message. He said: ”No Loyola graduate of 2009 had heard anything from Dean Gold since then, except for money, and certainly NEVER about him being ‘committed to do all that he can to assist Loyola graduates with their careers.”’

While this alumni mixer message may not have been a direct response to the graduate’s displeased letter, it certainly seemed to inspire the Dean:

”Dean Victory Gold is committed to do all that he can to assist Loyola graduates with their careers. His goal is to help recent graduates take the next step forward, whether that might be moving to a new firm, starting your own practice or creating and increasing employment opportunities in this challenging job market.
On Thursday, November 3, 2011 the Law School will host a private mixer from 6 to 7:00 p.m. at The London West Hollywood for recent graduates (five years or less) and alums who have been practicing between 10 and 20 years. This is a great opportunity for recent graduates to gain first-hand insight about career paths from Loyola alums who are successful practitioners.
This private mixer is in conjunction with the Law School’s annual Alumni Grand Reunion from 7 to 9:00 p.m. that evening. The ticket price will be give you entry to both events. Please RSVP today and take advantage of Loyola’s alumni network.
The Grand Reunion is the biggest alumni event of the year. It brings together hundreds of alumni from diverse practice areas and class years. We have more than 60 firms who serve as sponsors- from solo practitioners to national and worldwide firms. Representations from these firms attend the Grand Reunion. Don’t miss a great opportunity to interact with Loyola alums! RSVP today.”

Sounds like Dean Gold is trying to bribe the other alumni with a party. Maybe he thinks that he can make them believe he is actually trying to help, then they will forget that he really isn’t helping at all.

This is part of what the angry graduate wrote in his email:

”It would be nice to get a letter from Dean Gold saying he know a lot of us are struggling and that he actually cares for us to be practicing, more than us feeling like he’s happy we paid LLS $55K a year to be there and graduate with a bad reputation and crippling debt.”

It may not make any difference, but I’m sure we are all hoping that Dean Gold will show up to the Grand Reunion, find the angry graduate, give him a big hug, and say, ”I feel your pain.”
