Rick Santorum, a republican candidate for the presidency, issued a very interesting explanation for his stance against gay marriage during one of his campaign stops, which ironically was at a Christian college in Iowa.
A graduate of the college decided to compare gay marriage to interracial marriage and said that it would be a hit to faith and family in the United States. It was reported by ABC News that Santorum, a former Pennsylvania senator, became agitated by this comment and began discussing the risks of gay sex.
Santorum went on to explain that should same sex marriage be legalized in the United States, the sexual activity practiced by same sex partners would then be seen as equal to heterosexual marriages. This would then lead to gay sex being taught in the country’s schools, according to the Huffington Post.
“Really–wow–um okay, well let’s see if we can have a discussion. We can flesh out some, well, let’s look at what’s going to be taught in our schools because now we have same sex couples being the same and their sexual activity being seen as equal and being affirmed by society as heterosexual couples and their activity,” Santorum said.
The student who made the original comment disagreed with Santorum’s response, who then made sure he stuck to his answer and how he came to that conclusion.

“I think you’re wrong–okay, in fact you have to know you’re wrong, because if we say legally if this type of relationship is identical to other type relationships then of course more of it will be taught because this is what the law says,” he said.
In previous public comments, Santorum has made his stance known on gay marriage, claiming that legalizing gay marriage would cause the country to fall.
Santorum is not the only GOP candidate to fight with the country’s voters when it comes to gay marriage. At an Iowa High School, Michele Bachmann caused a major stir amongst students regarding the topic and then decided to practice silence after she was confronted by an eight year old boy. The eight year old boy confronted Bachmann about his gay mother.
Another political figure involved in the gay marriage fight is that of Newt Gingrich, who was glitter-bombed at a book signing event he was hosting. The glitter-bombing came from a man who told Gingrich to stop the hate in the country.
Santorum comes with a long history of telling others how they should be having sex, and here is one of the examples from the Iowa Independent, Think Progress, and MSNBC:
“Marriage is what marriage is. Marriage was around before government said what it was. It’s like going out and saying, ‘That tree is a car.’ Well, the tree’s not a car. A tree’s a tree. Marriage is marriage.”
“It’s like handing up this and saying this glass of water is a glass of beer. Well you can call it a glass of beer, it’s not a glass of beer, it’s a glass of water. And water is what water is. Marriage is what marriage is.”
“I can call this napkin a paper towel, but it is a napkin. Why? Because it is, what it is.”
